Backsplash Calculator
Calculate the materials needed for your kitchen or bathroom backsplash project. Enter the length and height of your backsplash area, select tile size, and get accurate estimates for tiles, thinset, grout, and costs.
Total Area = Length × Height - Window Area
Area with Waste = Net Area × (1 + Waste%/100)
Tile Area = (Tile Width × Tile Height in inches) / 144
Tiles Needed = Area with Waste / Tile Area (rounded up)
Thinset Bags = Area / 95 sq ft per bag
Grout Bags = Area / 150 sq ft per bag
Example:
Backsplash: 20 ft × 1.5 ft = 30 sq ft
Tile: 3" × 6" subway tiles
Window: 3 ft × 2 ft = 6 sq ft
Waste: 10%
Net Area = 30 - 6 = 24 sq ft
With Waste = 24 × 1.10 = 26.4 sq ft
Tile Area = (3 × 6) / 144 = 0.125 sq ft
Tiles Needed = 26.4 / 0.125 = 212 tiles
Thinset = 1 bag, Grout = 1 bag
Boxes = 3 (at 10 sq ft per box)
