ERA Calculator

Calculate a pitcher's Earned Run Average (ERA). Enter the number of earned runs allowed and innings pitched to determine ERA.

Total earned runs given up by the pitcher

Use decimals for partial innings (e.g., 6.1 for 6? innings)

ERA = (Earned Runs / Innings Pitched) × 9
Example: Pitcher allows 3 earned runs in 7 innings pitched = 3.86 ERA. Under 3.00 is considered excellent

What is ERA in baseball?

ERA (Earned Run Average) is a statistic that measures the average number of earned runs a pitcher gives up per nine innings pitched. It's one of the most common ways to evaluate pitcher performance.

What is a good ERA?

In MLB, an ERA under 3.00 is considered excellent, 3.00-4.00 is above average, 4.00-5.00 is average, and above 5.00 is below average. League-average ERA typically hovers around 4.00-4.50.

What's the difference between earned and unearned runs?

Earned runs are runs that score without the aid of defensive errors or passed balls. Unearned runs result from mistakes by fielders and don't count against a pitcher's ERA.

How do I enter partial innings?

Use .1 for ? inning (one out) and .2 for ? innings (two outs). For example, 6? innings should be entered as 6.1, and 6? innings as 6.2.
