Joint Compound Calculator
Calculate the precise amount of joint compound needed for your drywall joints. Enter the linear feet of joints, joint type, number of fasteners, and coats to get accurate material estimates for a professional finish.
Joint Compound = Linear Feet × Rate per Foot × Coats
Rate: Butt = 0.053, Tapered = 0.038, Corner = 0.045 lbs/ft/coat
Fastener Compound = Screws/Nails × 0.003 × Coats
Total = (Joint + Fastener) × (1 + Waste%/100)
Gallons = Total lbs / 8.5 lbs per gallon
Example:
Joints: 200 linear feet (tapered)
Screws: 500
Coats: 3
Waste: 15%
Joint = 200 × 0.038 × 3 = 22.8 lbs
Fastener = 500 × 0.003 × 3 = 4.5 lbs
Base = 22.8 + 4.5 = 27.3 lbs
Total = 27.3 × 1.15 = 31.4 lbs
Gallons = 31.4 / 8.5 = 3.69 gallons
Buckets = 1 (5-gallon)
