Area Formulas:

Rectangle: A = L × W
Circle: A = π × r²
Triangle: A = (b × h) ÷ 2
Trapezoid: A = ((a + b) ÷ 2) × h

Conversions:
1 m² = 10.764 sq ft
1 m² = 1.196 sq yd
A rectangular room: 5 m long, 4 m wide.

Area = 5 × 4 = 20.00 m²
In sq ft: 20 × 10.764 = 215.3 sq ft
In sq yd: 20 × 1.196 = 23.9 sq yd
At $250 per m²: 20 × $250 = $5,000.00

How do you calculate square meters of a room?

For a rectangular room, multiply length by width. Formula: Area = Length × Width. Example: a room 5 meters long and 4 meters wide = 20 square meters. For irregular rooms, divide into rectangles, calculate each, and add together. Measure in meters, or convert from centimeters (divide by 100) or feet (multiply feet by 0.3048). Always measure at the longest and widest points, including closets and alcoves. For L-shaped rooms, break into two rectangles and add their areas.

What is the difference between square meters and meters squared?

They are technically the same unit but used differently in context. Square meters (m²) is the standard unit of area. "Meters squared" usually means the same thing but is less common phrasing. Five square meters (5 m²) could be a 2.5m × 2m rectangle or a 5m × 1m strip — same area, different shape. In construction and real estate, always use square meters (m²). Note: 1 meter square = 1 m² (a square with 1 meter sides). A room described as "6 meters by 4 meters" has an area of 24 square meters.

How many square meters is a typical house?

Average house sizes by country: United States: 200-260 m² (2,200-2,800 sq ft), United Kingdom: 80-100 m², Australia: 200-230 m², Japan: 90-120 m², Sweden: 100-130 m², Germany: 90-110 m². In general: Small house: 50-100 m², Medium house: 100-200 m², Large house: 200-400 m², Mansion: 400+ m². Apartment average: Studio/1-bed: 35-55 m², 2-bed: 55-85 m², 3-bed: 85-120 m². House size trends are decreasing in developed countries as land costs rise.

How do I convert square meters to other units?

Common conversions: 1 m² = 10.764 sq ft (multiply by 10.764). 1 m² = 1.196 sq yd (multiply by 1.196). 1 m² = 0.000247 acres (multiply by 0.000247). 1 m² = 0.0001 hectares (divide by 10,000). Reverse conversions: 1 sq ft = 0.0929 m². 1 sq yd = 0.836 m². 1 acre = 4,047 m². 1 hectare = 10,000 m². For quick estimates: divide sq ft by 10.764 to get m². Multiply m² by 10.764 to get sq ft. Use these conversions for material orders, real estate comparisons, and international projects.
