Post holes should be 1/3 of the post height above ground plus 6 inches for gravel drainage. For a 6-ft privacy fence: hole depth = 24-30 inches minimum. Hole diameter: 8-10 inches (3-4 times post width). Use 80 lbs of concrete mix per post (one bag). Below frost line in cold climates — typically 30-48 inches deep. Vinyl posts are hollow — fill with concrete or use a post sleeve insert for strength. Set posts 6 ft apart for 6-ft panels. Always check local building codes for frost depth requirements.

Gates sold separately and include: gate frame kit, hinges, latch, gate posts (heavier duty). Additional items: post sleeves (retrofit over wood posts), concrete mix (sold separately), gravel for drainage. Most manufacturers offer 20-year warranties against fading, cracking, and warping. Color is consistent throughout the material (not painted).

Board spacing depends on fence style: Privacy/solid: no gap (boards touch or overlap), Semi-privacy: 1/2 to 1 inch gaps between boards, Picket: 1 to 2 inches between pickets, Ranch rail: 12-24 inches between rails. Spacing affects material count: semi-privacy uses about 15-20% less material than solid privacy. For view-through fences, check local zoning — many areas restrict gaps larger than 4 inches for pool enclosures. Consistent spacing is critical for professional appearance — use precut spacers.
