Test Grade Calculator

Calculate your test grade percentage and letter grade based on correct answers.

Percentage = (Correct Answers / Total Questions) x 100; Letter grades: A=90+, B=80+, C=70+, D=60+, F=<60
42 correct out of 50 questions: (42/50) x 100 = 84% = B letter grade, 8 incorrect answers

How do you calculate test grade percentage?

Formula: (Correct Answers / Total Questions) x 100 = Percentage. Example: 42 correct out of 50 = (42/50) x 100 = 84%. Standard letter grade conversion: A = 90-100%, B = 80-89%, C = 70-79%, D = 60-69%, F = <60%. Some schools use plus/minus grades: A- = 90-92%, B+ = 87-89%, etc. Check your school's specific grading scale as they vary.

How many questions can I miss and still get an A?

For 90% (A): You can miss 10% of questions. Formula: Questions to miss = Total x 0.10. Examples: 50 questions = miss 5 max (get 45+), 100 questions = miss 10 max (get 90+), 25 questions = miss 2-3 max (get 23+). For different grades: A (90%) = miss 10%, B (80%) = miss 20%, C (70%) = miss 30%. Round down to be safe - missing 5.5 means you can only miss 5.

What if there are different point values per question?

Weighted questions require different calculation: Add up points earned, divide by total possible points. Example: 10 questions worth 2 points each (20 total), 5 questions worth 4 points each (20 total) = 40 points possible. Got 8x2=16 and 4x4=16 = 32/40 = 80%. This calculator works for equal-weight questions. For weighted tests, calculate total points earned / total points possible x 100.

How can I improve my test grades?

Study strategies: Start early (cramming less effective), practice problems (active learning beats reading), teach someone else (test understanding), take practice tests (simulates exam), review mistakes (learn from errors), get sleep (brain consolidates memory), space out studying (distributed practice better than massed). Test-taking: Read questions carefully, answer easy questions first, manage time, check work if time permits. Consistent studying beats last-minute cramming.
