Time Calculator
Add or subtract time in hours and minutes. Calculate time duration between periods.
How do you add hours and minutes?
Convert to total minutes, add, then convert back. Example: 2h 30m + 1h 45m = (2x60+30) + (1x60+45) = 150 + 105 = 255 minutes = 4h 15m. When minutes ≥ 60, carry over to hours: 75 minutes = 1h 15m. This calculator does the math automatically. Use for: Work hours, project time, cooking time, travel duration, time tracking.
How do you subtract time?
Convert to minutes, subtract, convert back. Example: 8h 30m - 2h 45m = 510 - 165 = 345 minutes = 5h 45m. If result is negative, time borrowed more than started. Example: 1h 15m - 2h 30m = 75 - 150 = -75 minutes = -1h 15m (you went 1h 15m over). Useful for: Remaining time, overtime calculation, elapsed time between events.
How many hours are in different time periods?
Time conversions: 1 hour = 60 minutes, 1 day = 24 hours = 1,440 minutes, 1 week = 168 hours, 1 month (average) = 730 hours, 1 year = 8,760 hours. Work year: 2,080 hours (40 hrs/week x 52 weeks). Common durations: Full-time job = 40 hrs/week, Part-time = 20-30 hrs/week, Overtime = 40+ hrs/week. Calculator handles hours and minutes for precision.
How do I calculate total hours worked for payroll?
Track daily hours, add them up. Example: Mon 8h 30m, Tue 7h 45m, Wed 9h 15m, Thu 8h 0m, Fri 6h 30m. Convert each to minutes: 510 + 465 + 555 + 480 + 390 = 2,400 minutes = 40 hours. Or convert to decimal hours (8.5, 7.75, 9.25, 8.0, 6.5 = 40.0 hrs). Payroll often uses decimal hours: 8h 30m = 8.5 hours for calculation.
