How many cats use the litter box

Weekly Usage = Base Rate per Cat × Multi-Cat Factor
2 cats, clumping litter: ~27 lbs/week, 117 lbs/month (6 × 20-lb bags monthly)

How much litter should I put in the box?

Fill litter box 2-3 inches deep for clumping clay, 1-2 inches for non-clumping, 1 inch for crystal litter. Cats need enough depth to dig and cover waste properly. Too little litter causes odor and tracking. Too much is wasteful and cats may avoid deep litter. Top up weekly, replace completely every 2-4 weeks depending on type.

How often should I change the litter?

Clumping clay: Scoop daily, replace completely every 2-3 weeks. Non-clumping clay: Scoop solids daily, replace entire box weekly. Silica crystal: Stir daily, replace every 3-4 weeks. Pine pellets: Sift daily, replace every 2-3 weeks. Biodegradable (corn/wheat): Scoop daily, replace every 2-3 weeks. Always wash box with mild soap between changes.

How much litter does one cat use per week?

Average cat uses 15-20 lbs of clumping litter per week (with daily scooping). Non-clumping requires 20-25 lbs/week since you replace entire box. Crystal litter lasts longer at 8-12 lbs/month. Multiple cats multiply usage: 2 cats = 1.5x, 3 cats = 2x, 4+ cats = 2.5x single-cat usage.

What litter box size do I need?

Box should be 1.5x the length of your cat (nose to tail base). Average cat needs 18-22 inch box. Large cats need 24+ inches. Rule: length = cat length × 1.5, width = cat length × 1, height = 6+ inches for high diggers. Covered boxes contain odor but some cats feel trapped. Have one box per cat plus one extra.
