Target EC/nutrient concentration
What EC level should my hydroponic nutrient solution be?
Target EC depends on crop and growth stage. Lettuce/leafy greens: 1.2-1.5 mS/cm. Herbs (basil): 1.5-2.0 mS/cm. Tomatoes/peppers: 1.8-2.5 mS/cm. Seedlings: 0.5-0.8 mS/cm. Increase EC by 0.2-0.3 every 1-2 weeks as plants mature. Never exceed 3.0-3.5 mS/cm unless recommended. Always start lower and increase gradually.
How do I mix hydroponic nutrients?
Always add nutrients to water, never water to nutrients.顺序: 1) Fill reservoir with water, 2) Add part A and stir, 3) Add part B and stir, 4) Check pH and adjust (5.5-6.5 for most), 5) Check EC. Mix concentrates at 1:100 or 1:250 ratio depending on brand. Never mix concentrates together undiluted - they can precipitate. Check pH after adding nutrients as pH often rises.
How often should I change my nutrient solution?
In recirculating systems, change nutrient solution every 1-2 weeks or when EC drops 30% or pH drifts beyond range. In DWC, change every 2-3 weeks if maintaining properly. Top off with plain water between changes (not nutrient water) as water evaporates. If plants show deficiency signs, change solution immediately. Always clean reservoir between changes to prevent biofilm buildup.
What is the ideal pH for hydroponics?
Most hydroponic crops prefer pH 5.5-6.5. Lettuce: 5.5-6.0. Tomatoes: 5.8-6.3. Herbs: 5.8-6.2. Peppers: 5.8-6.2. At pH outside this range, nutrient uptake is blocked even if nutrients are present. Check pH daily and adjust with pH up/down solutions. Water source pH affects this - consider using filtered or pH-neutral water.
