Blood Pressure Calculator

Enter your blood pressure reading to determine your category based on 2017 ACC/AHA guidelines. Calculate Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) and pulse pressure to assess cardiovascular health.

Pressure when heart beats

Pressure when heart rests between beats

Used for age-adjusted recommendations

MAP = Diastolic + (Systolic - Diastolic) / 3; Pulse Pressure = Systolic - Diastolic
Reading of 130/85 mmHg = Stage 1 Hypertension, MAP = 100 mmHg, Pulse Pressure = 45 mmHg (normal range)

What is a normal blood pressure reading?

Normal blood pressure is less than 120/80 mmHg. The top number (systolic) measures pressure when your heart beats, and the bottom number (diastolic) measures pressure when your heart rests between beats.

What is Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP)?

MAP is the average pressure in your arteries during one cardiac cycle. It's calculated as: MAP = Diastolic + (Systolic - Diastolic)/3. Normal MAP is 70-100 mmHg, which ensures adequate organ perfusion.

What is pulse pressure and why does it matter?

Pulse pressure is the difference between systolic and diastolic pressure. Normal is 40-60 mmHg. High pulse pressure (>60) may indicate stiff arteries and increased cardiovascular risk, especially in older adults.

When should I seek medical help for high blood pressure?

Seek immediate emergency care if your reading is 180/120 or higher (hypertensive crisis). For Stage 1 or 2 hypertension, schedule an appointment with your doctor. Consistently elevated readings require medical evaluation.
