What is the correct standing desk height for my height?
For most people, standing desk height = Height (inches) × 0.55 to 0.58. For a 5'10" (70") person: 70 × 0.56 = 39.2" desk height. Elbows should be at 90° with forearms parallel to floor. Monitor: Top of screen at or slightly below eye level. Feet shoulder-width apart, knees soft (not locked). Anti-fatigue mat recommended for long standing sessions.
How long should I stand at my desk each day?
Research suggests: 1-2 hours total for beginners, building to 4-6 hours spread throughout the day. Alternate every 30-60 minutes between sitting and standing. Never stand for more than 90 minutes continuously. The KEY is movement - shift weight, stretch calves, do small movements. Total daily sitting should be under 6-7 hours for health benefits.
What are signs my standing desk is at wrong height?
Too high: Shoulders hunched, wrists bent up/down, neck tilted down to see screen. Too low: Shoulders elevated, elbows flared out, neck craned up. Correct height: Shoulders relaxed, elbows at 90°, wrists straight, monitor top at eye level, knees slightly bent, weight evenly distributed on both feet.
Do I need a different setup for sitting vs standing?
Yes. Standing desk height is typically 44-48" for most adults. Sitting desk height is 28-30". Monitor height should adjust too - standing monitor needs to be 10-15" higher. Use a monitor arm for easy adjustment. Chair: feet flat, knees at 90°, thighs parallel to floor. Consider a convertible standing desk for seamless transitions.
