What is the minimum recommended layover time?

Minimum connection times vary by airport: Domestic-domestic typically needs 45 minutes, international connections need 1-2 hours. However, we recommend at least 2 hours for domestic connections and 3 hours for international connections to account for delays, long walks, security lines, and unexpected issues. Mega hubs like Dubai or Heathrow may need even more time.

Is a 3-hour layover enough to leave the airport?

It depends on the airport and your destination. For a 3-hour layover, you typically have 1-1.5 hours of free time after clearing security and reaching the gate area. This is usually not enough to leave the airport unless the exit is very close and you have no visa requirements. For leaving the airport, we recommend at least 6-8 hours.

What can I do during a long layover?

For 2-4 hour layovers: visit airport lounges, explore shops and restaurants, use nap pods or rest areas. For 4-8 hours: consider a city tour if possible, visit airport hotels for day rooms, or enjoy extensive airport amenities. For 8+ hours: book a transit hotel, take a city tour, or if you can leave the airport, explore nearby attractions.

Should I book a flight with a short layover to save time?

Short layovers (under 90 minutes) are risky, especially for international connections. While they save total travel time, the stress and risk of missing your connection often outweigh the benefits. We recommend minimum 2-hour layovers for domestic and 3-hour for international. The cost of rebooking a missed flight far exceeds the time saved.
