Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) Calculator

Calculate your APFT score with our comprehensive calculator. Enter your performance in push-ups, sit-ups, and 2-mile run to get your official score (0-300 points), individual event scores, performance rating, and pass/fail status. Automatically adjusts for age and gender using official Army scoring standards. NOTE: The APFT was replaced by ACFT in 2020, but these standards remain relevant for training and historical comparison.

Each event scored 0-100 points using age/gender-specific tables. Total score = Push-up score + Sit-up score + Run score (max 300). Minimum passing: 60 points per event and 180 total.
25-year-old male: 60 push-ups (80 pts) + 70 sit-ups (87 pts) + 14:30 run (75 pts) = 242 total (Good rating, PASS)

What is the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT)?

The APFT is the US Army's physical fitness assessment consisting of three events: push-ups (2 minutes), sit-ups (2 minutes), and a 2-mile run. Each event is scored 0-100 points, for a maximum total of 300 points. Minimum passing score is 180 (60 points per event). Soldiers must pass the APFT to maintain readiness and for career progression. Note: The APFT was replaced by the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) in 2020, but APFT scoring standards remain relevant for historical comparison and training.

What is a good APFT score?

APFT scoring levels: 180-199 = Minimum passing; 200-239 = Satisfactory; 240-269 = Good; 270-289 = Excellent; 290-300 = Outstanding (max score). 270+ is often required for leadership positions and promotions. 300 points is rare - requires maximum performance on all three events. For example, a 25-year-old male needs 75+ push-ups, 80+ sit-ups, and sub-13:18 2-mile run for 300. Scores vary by age and gender using standardized tables.

How is the APFT scored differently by age and gender?

APFT uses age and gender-specific scoring tables because physical capabilities vary. Older soldiers have lower performance requirements for the same score. For example, to score 100 push-ups: 17-21 male needs 71 reps, 52-56 male needs 50 reps. Women have different standards reflecting physiological differences: 17-21 female needs 42 push-ups for 100 points. Each age group (17-21, 22-26, 27-31, etc.) has unique tables. This ensures fair assessment while maintaining fitness standards across the force.

What happens if you fail the APFT?

Failing the APFT (under 60 points in any event or under 180 total) can result in: flagged personnel action (no promotions, schools, or awards), counseling and remedial PT, potential separation from service if repeated failures occur, and negative impact on evaluation reports. First-time failures usually result in additional training and retest within 90 days. Repeated failures may lead to administrative separation. Medical profiles can provide alternative events or exemptions. The APFT is a key component of Army readiness and career progression.
